The Art of the Interior: Beyond the Window

Cha Studios offers a full-circle approach to textiles. We don’t just decorate rooms; we curate environments where every fabric tells a story. Working with private clients, interior designers and builders, we design and make custom upholstery, soft furnishings, shop fit outs that bring warmth, texture and cohesion to a space.

  • The finishing touches that define a space, designed for both indoor and outdoor living. From custom bay window cushions to hand-stitched bolsters, we create the layers that make a home feel lived-in and cohesive.

  • Custom upholstery designed for residential and commercial interiors, including bespoke bedheads, banquette seating, bench seats, and upholstered furniture crafted with an emphisis on comfort, texture and longevity.

  • A sustainable, sophisticated alternative to buying new. Our custom-made covers breathe fresh life into your favourite lounges and armchairs, respecting their original form while refining the aesthetic.

Meet Your Maker:
Louise Hong

A smiling woman with dark hair in a bun, wearing a white embroidered blouse and white pants, sitting cross-legged on a beige couch against a plain white wall.

From 12 years in global fashion to the Northern Rivers—I help you tell your story through textiles.

Lou’s journey with textiles didn’t start at the window; it began on the global stage. With over 12 years as a fashion designer in Italy, Canada, and Hong Kong, she developed an eye for drape, grain, and the way light moves through beautiful fibres.

After five years immersed in the handcrafted textile markets of Mexico and Central America, Lou returned to Australia with a redefined purpose: to move away from fashion and toward the art of slow, considered interiors.

Today, Cha Studios is the culmination of that global experience. Based in Lennox Head, Lou brings together her fashion background and the relaxed coastal spirit of the Northern Rivers, creating curtains, blinds, soft furnishings and upholstery with a deep understanding of fabric and form.

At the heart of her work is a passion for creating spaces where people can connect. When you work with Lou, you’re not just ordering a window covering; you are collaborating with a designer who understands the DNA of fabric.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • In our coastal and hinterland climate, we often recommend linen-blend or linen-look sheers rather than pure natural linen. These fabrics give the relaxed, textured look of linen while offering better stability in humidity, where natural fibres can shrink, expand, move and fade over time. For bedrooms, we often suggest layering a sheer S-fold curtain with a high-quality blockout curtain or block out roller blind, giving you softness, privacy and light control without compromising the relaxed coastal feel.

  • Linen and natural fibre fabrics can work beautifully across most curtain styles, from soft S-fold curtains to more tailored pleats. However, because natural fibres can expand and contract with changes in humidity, we highly recommend finishing them with a slight puddle on the floor rather than a precise floor clearance. This allows the fabric to move naturally over time while maintaining a relaxed, intentional look.

  • Yes. We specialise in motorised curtain systems and automated roller blinds for modern Northern Rivers homes. Whether you have hard-to-reach high windows or simply want the convenience of smart-home integration, our motorised solutions offer effortless operation. We use quiet, high-performance hardware that can be controlled via remote.

  • Because every piece at Cha Studios is made-to-measure and handcrafted with intention, our typical lead time is 4–6 weeks from deposit. Being locally manufactured right here in the region allows us to maintain strict quality control and ensure your window furnishings are finished to a professional boutique standard before installation.

  • Yes. We offer professional installation to ensure your curtains and blinds are fitted correctly, function smoothly and sit beautifully within the space.

  • Yes. Curtains and blinds can help reduce heat transfer, protect furnishings from strong sun and improve privacy. For the best insulation and light control, we recommend blockout linings, blockout curtains or layering sheers with blockout blinds.

  • In some cases, yes. We can assess your existing tracks, blinds or hardware during the measure appointment. If they are suitable and in good condition, they may be able to be reused. If not, we can recommend a more appropriate solution.
